I haven't posted much lately, though I love reading all my friends' posts...and while I haven't much to say about Supernatural (though I am working on a SummerGen story!) I thought maybe some of you would like to see what I've been up to  :)

First I spent a crazy 48 hours in Nashville visiting my eldest daughter in order to attend my 2 and 5-year-old granddaughters' dance recital and then to spend a day at the Tennessee Renaissance Faire:

Me, Kathie (Sarah's mother-in-law), Sarah, Kira, and Evelyn. (And all those costumes were made by me 25 years ago when Sarah worked the Bristol, Wisconsin, Ren Faire every summer and we spent every weekend up there. When Sarah said we might be going to the Tennesse Faire, I emptied my costume closet into my suitcase. Well, not completely...I still have 12 chemises and bodices in varying sizes sitting in a Rubbermaid tub...)

And then I was off to Heidelberg, Germany, to spend 8 days with my middle girl and my 6-year-old and 6-month-old granddaughters. And I didn't want to leave either place...

Emma, Matilda, and me.

Emma is bilingual, having learned German from her papa and English from her mama, and she just started reading in German a few weeks before I came. The first night I was there, she brought me 3 English kids' books for her bedtime stories--and proceeded to read them to me in English! I am simply boggled at how her mind can do that.

And there is nothing cuter than hearing Dr. Seuss read in a 6-year-old's German accent!

Once more I’m amazed at the costumes. Even though I saw them before they see me each time. The kid ones are so cute.

And that reading story. Amazing.

You have such a beautiful family!! Fantastic photos. And the Ren Faire costumes!!!! I was already going to comment on how wonderful everyone looked, and then I got to the part where you made all the costumes and that's just fantastic. <33333

Because we went every summer for 6 years, I had to make new costumes for the little ones each time because they kept growing! I seriously have costumes in every size from 4 year old to multiple adult ones, and I was delighted to pull them out of storage!

I feel like it's been so long since I was inspired to write a SPN story that participating in a challenge would kick-start my muse...it's been a little slow starting but I'm getting there...

I have a whole set of Faire costumes from little girl to multiple adult sizes :) It was such fun to see them in use again!

Those costumes are fab, I'm always so impressed by people who have proper, practical skills! Similarly I'm impressed by people with language skills... I always wish my Mum had spoken to me in French and let my Dad talk in English so I'd have been bilingual, but sadly she didn't start trying to teach me French until I was about 3 or 4 and by then I thought I knew better! LOL

So looking forward to everyone's Summergens! :D

I am utterly amazed by how fluidly Emma switches languages--what a gift to learn from birth!

I had such fun pulling those costumes out of storage, and seeing them on my grandkids just made me happy :)

How wonderful you are able to travel to see them! And your granddaughters being raised in Germany are very fortunate to have bilingualism at such a young, formative age; it can only bring them more opportunities later on. :)

With my 3 kids having gone in all different directions--Germany, Nashville, and Seattle--I spend a lot of time on planes, but it's totally worth it!

It's very funny when the 6-year-old tries to correct my German pronunciation...

Those costumes look awesome! :D

Whoa, Heidelberg is not that far away from here and I've been there once for a conference - it's a very pretty city. Being raised bilingual is a huge advantage in this world (especially wih a combination of big languages like English and German). I have no idea how kids make sense of learning two languages, but somehow it works. :)
