I haven't posted much lately, though I love reading all my friends' posts...and while I haven't much to say about Supernatural (though I am working on a SummerGen story!) I thought maybe some of you would like to see what I've been up to :)
First I spent a crazy 48 hours in Nashville visiting my eldest daughter in order to attend my 2 and 5-year-old granddaughters' dance recital and then to spend a day at the Tennessee Renaissance Faire:

Me, Kathie (Sarah's mother-in-law), Sarah, Kira, and Evelyn. (And all those costumes were made by me 25 years ago when Sarah worked the Bristol, Wisconsin, Ren Faire every summer and we spent every weekend up there. When Sarah said we might be going to the Tennesse Faire, I emptied my costume closet into my suitcase. Well, not completely...I still have 12 chemises and bodices in varying sizes sitting in a Rubbermaid tub...)
And then I was off to Heidelberg, Germany, to spend 8 days with my middle girl and my 6-year-old and 6-month-old granddaughters. And I didn't want to leave either place...

Emma, Matilda, and me.
Emma is bilingual, having learned German from her papa and English from her mama, and she just started reading in German a few weeks before I came. The first night I was there, she brought me 3 English kids' books for her bedtime stories--and proceeded to read them to me in English! I am simply boggled at how her mind can do that.
And there is nothing cuter than hearing Dr. Seuss read in a 6-year-old's German accent!

Date: 2018-06-11 08:37 pm (UTC)Whoa, Heidelberg is not that far away from here and I've been there once for a conference - it's a very pretty city. Being raised bilingual is a huge advantage in this world (especially wih a combination of big languages like English and German). I have no idea how kids make sense of learning two languages, but somehow it works. :)
