Merry Christmas--Happy Holidays--Happy New Year! (A little late...)

I realize I haven't posted for a long time, though I have been leaving comments on my friends' feeds...

So a really quick happy post about how I spent my Christmas!

I live in Chicago. I have 3 daughters who live in Nashville, Tennessee (with 2 daughters ages 3 1/2 and 1); Heidelberg, Germany (with 1 daughter age 4 1/2); and Tacoma, Washington (no kids, but a cat) and they all have lovely husbands, as do I.

For my Christmas present to myself I flew all of us to Germany to spend Christmas with my daughter there. It was the first time all of us have been together in about 2  1/2 years.

It was so wonderful to be all together for a holiday! The little girls hit it off immediately and were insperable the whole 9 days we were there. And somehow my kids knew that I was quietly obsessing about how I was going to get a photo of all of us during the trip--who could I hand a camera to that would get all of us smiling at the same time? because the day we arrived they had hired a professional photographer to come to the house and take pictures as my Christmas present!

It was absolutely the perfect gift for me, and I thought I'd share the result, along with my other favorite 2 pictures from the trip: me with all 3 of my granddaughters, and the granddaughters wearing the flannel nightgowns that Aunt Adrienne (the one without kids) sewed for them all to wear to bed on Christmas Eve.

I hope these pictures make you smile as much as I do when I look at them  :)

That is adorable!! What a wonderful time you must have had but how difficult to leave them all to go back to normal after Christmas.

It was incredibly special to be all together!

I just found out, heartbreakingly though, that the 4 year old in Germany has cried herself to sleep every night since we left because she misses her cousins :(

Lovely picture. What a great gift to you and your family. It's so nice that you were all able to get together after being separated for so long. It gets harder and harder to get together as a family as everyone ages and goes their separate ways. Good for you to making this time.

It really was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the kids will never be this age again...and the little ones were so caught up in Christmas magic and playing with each other!
