I'm debating someone who thinks Sam had the amulet all along--I think Chuck had it, showed it in the bar, and then transported it to Sam's pocket when he decided to intervene after all. Because it couldn't have been with Sam in the Cage, a physical object wouldn't have gone there, and if Sam had left it in his duffel or in his clothes before he jumped in the pit, and even assuming Dean simply dumped all Sam's stuff at Bobby's without looking at it and then soulless!Sam retrieved it, it's just not believable that in 6 years Sam concealed it throughout their itinerant lifestyle so thoroughly that Dean never noticed it...

And then I realize I'm arguing for realism when I have absolutely no problem accepting that God has been wandering the earth on sabbatical living the life of a nebbish hack writer...

Last night was totally amazing! Robbie Thompson is the new God...

Kripke must have been laughing his head off - Revolution!! RObbie is awesome. I just finished watching and am kind of absorbing now but I agree, even if Sam did sneak the amulet out of the bin, he'd have lost it again since. And Sam's expression was just as gobsmacked as Dean's. So I reckon Chuck transported it there because otherwise, why would it glow any how? It was there because he wanted them to know he was there, and to come and find them.

Eee so many feels and thoughts about this one!

Kripke tweeted that Robbie ran everything past him and Eric wholeheartedly approved :)

Yes, yes. [Nods vigorously.] I agree with you. Chuck clearly had it earlier. And then he transported it into Sam's pocket as a signal to the boys to go find him.

I enjoyed this one too!

I was thinking even if Sam had the amulet in that keepsake box of his -- that we saw when he put the brochures from the retirement home in there -- God could have easily retrieved it from there or wherever!

I screamed out loud when that amulet appeared, I tell you. :)

freya922 might be on to something...

And how was it possible that by the end of the episode I liked Metatron, the villain I have hated the most in all 11 years?!?!?

Right??? I am so with you about Metatron!! Kudos to Curtis Armstrong.

Someone else just pointed out that keepsake box, and that it appeared to have some stuff from a long time ago...so I guess it could have been in there and God just moved it around...So my question now is, did the writers deliberately have that box in that episode to set up the potential for Sam having it all along?

My guess is, though, that the actual answer is going to remain ambiguous so fans can think what they like...

We were definitely shown that Chuck had it with Metatron. And Chuck put it Sam's pocket to save the day and be known. The powers that be know how important the samulet is to parts of fandom and so the line about "not believing where it had been" was meant to intrigue but never answer. They really want that particular bit of canon to be open to individual fan interpretation.

I was also blown away. Rob owned the role. Fantastic performance. He oozed power.

I absolutely LOVED the episode - which doesn't happen much any more. (The last one was the musical episode.) I grinned all the way through it!

It was well past time for God!Chuck to come back, reveal himself, and sit down with the boys.

I'll entertain myself with the notion that Chuck will reset things to get rid of all the Big Bads that are supposed to be terrifying and end up just being stupid, so the boys can go back to Saving People...Hunting Things. The family business.

I was so glad to see Rob again, he's fantastic as Chuck and he always does a good job playing that role. I like the idea that Chuck placed it into Sam's pocket and turned it on so that the boys know he's there.

I've seen the theory that Sam could have had it all along because we saw, in the episode with the deaf hunter and the older woman, that Sam had a keepsake box in the bunker with some old artifacts...so I'll agree it could have gone either way, and I am sure it was left open to interpretation deliberately!

That was an amazing episode all together!

Wasn't it just wonderful!!! The in jokes, the boys, the singing, the creepy beautiful fog, and the scenes between Curtis and Rob were just perfect. I mean I actually enjoyed the Metatron scenes, which I don't think has ever happened before. And the emotions and complexities that Rob portrayed were wonderful; the boyish charm, the annoying ambivalence and then completely scary!!!

I need to re-watch this a few more time. I loved it!!! \o/

And the amulet!!! I was so happy to see it again, and I loved how they kept us guessing where's it's been this whole time. I'm not sure that Sam had it, I think the one we saw in his memory box was from 10.05. I think they're leaving it open for us all to make our guesses, and I'm more than happy to do that. Bring on the fic!!!

Sam definitely had the Samulet from the musical episode in his memory box, but the real one could have been in there too...Now I wonder if the appearance of that memory box earlier in the season was deliberate, to give fans a clue?

They certainly could have been planting a seed. I do love that memory box, and it would make sense for Sam to store it there if he's had it this whole time.

So many different theories and ideas - I love it!
