To my dear LJer friends--and anyone who designs websites--black or dark backgrounds with white letters are very hard for over-50-year-old eyes to read...just sayin'...
I second your comments. There are some color combinations some people use that I just can't read anymore. I know they want to have a pretty page, but putting a white or pink text against a darker background, nope, can't read it.
I'm so with you on that! I once opened a fabulous sounding fic to find bright fluoro red text on a black background! I couldn't convert to 'my layout' fast enough to stop the headache starting up behind my eyes!!!
Trust me, you don't need to be over fifty to get annoyed by white on black. It's terribly difficult to read, I always get the feeling that the letters are moving, I'm getting headache and blind. Or red on black - and it doesn't have to be a website, just a page in a magazine.
