Stolen fro tifaching

I know very little about most of the people on my friends list. Some
people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this
opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing
at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's
Thingy ...she likes money and cereal." I'd love it if everyone who's
friended me did this. (Yes, even you people who I know really well.)
Then post this in your own journal [only if you feel inclined]. In
return, ask me anything you'd like to know about me and I'll give you an
answer*.

*Providing it's answerable/suitable for public posting.

I've always been a fangirl type beginning with Donny Osmond when I was in elementary school.
My question for you: How is your health these days?

How kind of you to ask!

Ask the 6-month checkup after my heart attack, the doctor said I had regained pretty much all of the muscle function in the affected area, and I have been feeling fine since.

While I was a fan of all the Star Trek series, I never fangirled anyone until SPN.

This isn't probably something you don't know about me but.... Rome is my favourite city in the world and I've been there probably more than 10 times. I love ancient history and archaeology, though having a sponge for a brain means I don't retain much knowledge about it. I did study ancient Greek for a year with a professor who wrote book about Homer, and I've held the Book of Durrow in my hands.

A question for you - besides Supernatural, does (or has) anything else outside the real world fire you us like our boys do?

My kids, my kids, my kids! Both watching the kick-ass way they take on the world and for the things I never imagined I could do that they needed me to be capable of so I was :)

I have another question for you--where do you live? I get the impression you don't live in the US but I don't know why I think that.

I am a lefty. That said I bat right handed and really mess with the other side, heh. I am a coffee-a-holic as you know. There's no dealing with me on any level until I've had at least 2 cups in my system, lol.
My favorite flower is the Calla Lilly. But I adore any and all flowers. :) What simple pleasure makes you happy?

I live in Nottingham, UK. That's right, the Robin Hood place. I have never heard anyone around these parts speak with an accent like Kevin Costner in Prince of Thieves or Russell Crowe in Robin Hood.

If you could be any character in SPN, who would you be?

Date: 2013-01-26 02:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amberdreams.livejournal.com
Ha ha those accents were truly AWFUL!!!! It tickled me how defensive Russel Crowe got about it in interviews, he reckonned he'd really researched it carefully. Well not by actually talking to anyone from Nottingham, I'd venture!

I'll be up in your neck of the woods in April for my annual dose of Ice Hockey Playoff Finals... :D

I'm from Poland and work as a teacher, which I generally like. With some rare exceptions of when it drives me utterly crazy, that is. I love books, old movies, and mountains. It's not the most difficult trails that I choose, but few things can compare with a feeling climbing gives me. Consequently, summer holidays is for mountains, the rest of the year - lamenting over Polish weather and snow in higher parts of the mountains planning :)

Besides ff, do you have any guilty pleasures?

"from Poland"...Do you live there? My middle daughter met her German husband when they were both exchange students at the University of Warsaw in 2010.

Gulty pleasures? Well, there's always chocolate :) But really, it's reading. Before I discovered fanfic I was a bookaholic with the inability to ever stop during a novel--always had to finish, regardless of how late it was. Still am that way, actually, I never stop partway through a fic. Which is why I am often going to bed at 1 am...

Do you live there?

Yes, I do. Not in Warsaw though. But still, it's nice to hear that it turned out to be a happy place for your daughter.

Before I discovered fanfic I was a bookaholic with the inability to ever stop during a novel--always had to finish, regardless of how late it was.

Oh, I know the feeling! And the zombie feeling that hits the very next day. Actually, I'm suffering from a bookish hangover right now *slurps coffee* Which, since today's Saturday, I don't mind in the slightest :)

Oh! You are Polish....I wonder if I could ask a favour? I'm writing a J2 fanfic at the moment, where Jared is a Polish WWII pilot. I have a couple of Polish phrases I got from various sources and would really like someone who speaks the language to vet them - Google translate is great for getting a feel for what someone is saying but I'd never rely on it for getting a sentence correct. Most of it is swearing, if you are ok with that...

Let me know and I can run the phrases by you. There isn't much, just a few lines.

Sure, I'll be happy to help! :) You can PM me the phrases or email me at judytagreding@wp.pl
And I have to say, you got me really curious about the fic.

My best friend from high school and I go on a trip every fall, usually to a National Park. We don't camp, but we do spend our days out on the trails hiking and getting away from the crowds. Next on our list is either Yosemite or Olympic.

Where do you like to vacation?

Date: 2013-01-26 12:18 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] borgmama1of5.livejournal.com
While my kids were growing up, there were only two times we went on a non-family visiting vacation--once to Colorado and once on a 4 day cruise in the Bahamas. Then I went to VanCon in 2011, which was the first time I ever went on a trip alone to an unknown vacation. But now my vacation days are all spent on visiting my kids/grandkids in either Germany or Nashville. I go to Nashville a lot!

I had a day and night in Nashville on my Chicon trip - really liked it. It had a kind of tacky feel but a lot of charm. And a very good ice cream parlour.

I tend to assume that everyone is the same as me... which means that up until 2 weeks ago, it didn't actually occur to me that people found Misha Collins physically attractive. I thought everyone just liked him because of his personality. :P

How's your German? Any plans to go back for another visit soon? (I miss Germany).

My grasp of the German language is not progressing...I know I have a mental block against conquering it, and selfishly, since all my daughter's in-law do speak English, I'm not very motivated.

Probably won't be going to Germany in 2013 because all of my son-in-law's family is coming here in August to see the US for the first time!

Well this meme made me realize i had not added you as a friend. So i did! I always read your posts and see you as someone with a level head. How many children do you have? I don't have any children, but i teach sixth graders! I use LJ for fandom things. I live in eastern NY. I get the sense you live in the middle areas of the US. That's my flist catagorizing system. :)

You are right about where I live, I'm in Chicago. And I'm glad to have a new friend!

I have 3 daughters, 30, 25, and 23. The oldest is in labor as I am typing this (in Nashville), the middle one is is Germany with my 10 month old granddaughter, and the youngest, also in Nashville, will be getting married in October. I am happy with the men my daughters have chosen and consider them my kids too!

I am Cardinals baseball fan who grew up in a Cubs fan household. I work in social services.I used to play French horn and flute and was a marching band geek. I still love to watch marching bands. I pretty much keep my mouth shut both here and on Facebook on things outside of fandom, daily life and work because although I don't care if someone has a different religion, personal philosophy or political opinion from me, it kills me how most people treat each other when someone is different from them.

Question: What is your non-fandom creative outlet?

Date: 2013-01-27 12:59 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] borgmama1of5.livejournal.com
I know what you mean, nasty comments on FB and LJ just make me cringe. I mean, if you don't like what someone says, why be nasty? That's not going to change their mind!

When my kids were at home I loved to sew for them...I would make dresses of different styles but the same fabric so they would be coordinated for the holidays :) Now, not so much...although since I will have 2 granddaughters, and I still have little girl patterns and a lot of fabric, I might just get back to it. If I can tear myself away from SPN fandom long enough...

Cubs fan household? Do/did you live in Chicago?

Exactly! Plus, I don't think i have to agree with someone to be their friend.Maybe that comes with growing up in a Cubs household and turning out as a Cardinals fan?

I live in St.Louis now. But I grew up in Galesburg, IL--west central Illinois, just west of Peoria. And some of my dad's family is in the Chicago area (Naperville, Aurora) so he spent time there as a kid and so did we when we were growing up.

OK, facts about me ...
I have hazel eyes (similar colour to Sam)
I have a tattoo of a rabbit on my bottom.
I went prematurely grey in my 20s/30s so am constantly grateful for hair dye!
I work in HR, and in my spare time I work as an animal portrait artist.

And a Q. for you is If you could be queen for a day, what would be your first command?

Date: 2013-01-27 01:02 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] borgmama1of5.livejournal.com
Why a rabbit???

If I could be queen for a day...I guess that depends on just how much power I would have. My first thought is to order everyone to be nice to each other for a day. But if I just had authority over a little kingdom, then I would use my connections to get invited to the SPN set for a day :)

I so meant to do this earlier, and then got caught up, and ... augh! Anyway. I just remembered and wanted to scurry back over. And congratulate you about another grandbaby! I just became an auntie for the first time a few weeks ago – and at our yearly big family bash, there were three newborns (within the last month and a half) amongst the next generation, so babies everywhere! They are so adorable!

So, that wasn't actually the fact about me. It was that I make bronze sculpture – both my own, when I have time, and other artists' at the foundry where I've worked off-and-on when I'm around. I love sculpture, it's my favourite of all visual artforms, and I hate that you're not allowed to touch it at galleries. I mean, I get it, but still.

I had no idea you're from Chicago! So my question is, what is something you love doing in the city, or a place you love going?

From: [identity profile] borgmama1of5.livejournal.com
Sorry for the lateness, life has been non-stop lately...

Regrettably I just take the city as a given, a backdrop against what 'mI doing. I am always a little bit proud of how beautiful the Chicago skyline is, though, when I come upon it as I'm zooming down the expressway...

My favorite place to go is to a tiny storefront theater, right next to the L tracks, that seats about 60 people and has original plays based on whatever book strikes the fancy of those who run the theater. I've been going there for 23 years, and have never been disappointed in the creativity of their adaptations! It's called "Lifeline Theater."

Where do you live?

No worries, I totally get that. :)

That sounds really interesting, I'll have to check it out when I'm back in town. Right now I'm home in Australia for the foreseeable short term, I'm working on coming back though. I've lived a few places in Chicago, but I'd say the area of Lakeview is what I consider my home base.

I like money and cereal. Actually, my New Year's resolution was to fret less about money. This plan was immediately doomed by a water leak in my rental property on January 6, which was followed in turn by a huge ongoing mess with the HOA, the insurance company, the contractors, the attorneys, etc. I console myself with the thought that, hey, at least I'm not being possessed by Lucifer!

Question: Can you point to a particular episode or story that made you fall in love with the fandom?

Date: 2013-03-02 08:33 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] borgmama1of5.livejournal.com
I mainlined seasons one through four on dvds. I do not like horror movies or stories. But the relationship between Dean and Sam had me hooked from the confrontation between them at the bridge, when Dean tells Sam not to disregard their mother.

Now I would say I am more a fan of Jensen and Jared than of the show at times, because the genuine niceness and down-to-earth attitude of these two ridiculously good-looking young men just needs to be supported, to show that nice guys can indeed finish first!

Well, William and our music is obvious but here's some other stuff about me: I love horses and would have one or two of my own if I could and I'd ride every single day! I have written a lot of unfinished fantasy but two of my stories were published in anthologies. I adore parrots especially but all birds in general. Heck, I'm just a fan of all animals except maybe Mosquitos, no-see-ums, ticks and chiggers. I believe all people are born good and made bad by circumstance and that no one is irreclaimable. I wish the Doctor was a real person- I'd love a few rides in the TARDIS but I'd need serious work outs to be ready for all the running that would be necessary to stay alive. I follow a mostly "paleo" diet and have since about 2005. It works for me! I'm a Reiki practitioner and use it daily. I have spent a good deal of my life in therapy and probably would be dead or insane without it. I've been using Emotional Freeing Technique since about 2005 and highly recommend it for anything that ails you. Also, Tapas Acupressure Technique and EMDR are extremely helpful, too. I never wanted kids. I love good, dark chocolate. I'm hypo-thyroid and am recovering from adrenal exhaustion. :D

There are two parts to my answer to my favorite thing about myself. The first is the immense satisfaction of seeing that I have done some things right in my parenting to have 3 such empathetic and pro-active daughters who are each others' best friends!

And the second thing I really like about myself is how, at this point in my life, I really can accept other people with their mix of great parts and flaws and not feel the need to be dissatisfied that they are not perfect. I feel like the ability to just accept others where they are is the greatest thing I've ever learned and wish there was a way to give that gift to everyone!

I admire people who make the serious effort to put their money where their mouth is, so to speak, by actually living the ideals of carefully taking care of their bodies and emotional health. I tend to live so much in my mind that taking care of myself physically is an afterthought and something I just am not going to get a handle on in this life, I'm afraid...
