...two things jumped out at me about PPMM.

1) When Dean and Sam figured out--while still in the restaurant--that Tyler's mom was going to be the next victim, Sam was in his FBI suit. Presumably he headed to her house to protect her and was derailed by clowns. But in the clown scenes he was wearing his regular hunting clothes.

So he stopped to change out of his suit on the way to a rescue?*

2) Sam says Dean left him in Plucky's when Dean went trolling for chicks. How old would Dean have been? 15, 16? Would he have been driving the car in order to pick up a girl? Would that mean he was older? How old would Sam have been at that time? A lot older than Tyler and the other kids seemed to be...

Thoughts?

*It's a good thing he did, though, or his suit would have been ruined...

I don't know, I always imagined that they would have "hunting clothes" stashed with their weapons for times just like that. They know the job can get dirty and they also need clothes that they can move in. But that is just the way I always pictured it. There is no proof of that in the show that I can recall off the top of my head except for maybe Folsom Prison Blues? They didn't dig Nurse Glockner's grave in their prison garb so I just assumed that they have gotten very good at changing in the car when need be.

As for the age thing, I think Sam would have been 12 or older. He had to be, right? But the show didn't say that Plucky's caused his fear of clowns. The fact that he was already 12 and afraid of clowns would just make his experience at Plucky's that much worse, in my opinion. On Everybody Loves a Clown, didn't Dean say he remembered Sam crying whenever he saw Ronald McDonald? That had to be when they were much younger, because Sam was crying, so his fear of clowns had to be ingrained already by the time Dean left him at Plucky's.

I don't know, maybe the writers just don't follow a timeline!

I can go along with your idea that Sam changed in the car. I couldn't see him going back to the motel, that would have taken too much time. But he probably figured if he was messing with laser-eyed robots he wouldn't want to mess his suit.

I didn't pick up that being left at Plucky's caused Sam's fear of clowns either. I'm just puzzled at how old Dean would have been--leaving a 12-yr-old Sam would certainly have been awkward for the poor kid.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Ha, true about the suit...maybe he changed in the car before he got out and found the clown. People who are accustomed to car-living can do such magic tricks. :P

Who's to say Dean waited until he was legally old enough to drive before he started taking the car out? Or, that he had the car at all? He may have been stashing Sam at Plucky's when he was 13 onward...my guess is that Dean was probably into the ladies quite young, and just needed somewhere to stick his brother where adults were watching him, so that he'd quit cramping Dean's style. :P

But more than likely, Sam WAS too old for the place, which was probably part of the reason Sam hated it with a passion. My guess is that Sam was probably 10 or 11 - in those odd inbetween years where you aren't quiet a kid and aren't quiet a teenager.

Okay, changed in the car, I can buy that :)

I'm probably naive, but I like to think Dean was a little older before he was picking up girls...and if Sam was older than the other kids, oh he certainly would have hated being left there!

Re: Winchester boys' ages...

My thoughts exactly. I wasn't too impressed with writer's implication of Sam's debilitating fear of the clowns seemingly originated from Dean ditching Sam at Plucky's to chase skirts. In order for Dean to do that, Sam has to be at least 10 years old if not older. And the whole thing is underwhelming for me to have Sam so terrified of silly pizza joint and its clowns at that age.

I didn't pick up that being left at Plucky's actually caused Sam's fears, I thought more that it exacerbated one he already had. And that he hated it for that reason.

Nah, not picky just logical - and the writers often aren't that attentive to logic. But of course, things do get cut out too, so sometimes it's down to editors getting snap happy with their scissors!

I triy to ignore the inconsistencies but sometimes they do leap out and smack you in the face, and this is one of those times!

You are kind to give the writers the benefit of editing. I shall adopt your attitude because I don't want to find mistakes!

Maybe Sam's shirt just fell off. That seems to happen to him a lot.

Too bad he put another one on, then--wouldn't have minded seeing glitter stuck to his sweaty, bare chest!
