Just when I think nothing can surprise me, my girls do.
Today is my 31st wedding anniversary. Last year everyone seemed to have forgotten it, and I was a little bummed because I thought that was kind of a special number.
Tonight Erica, Adrienne, and the space between them that represented Sarah, gave Dave and me a memory book that they had put together without my ever getting suspicious. They had pulled a bunch of photos from the albums and scanned them in, and then they asked friends to write down a memory to share. So the book is a collection of anecdotes and thoughts from friends of both Dave and mine and friends of theirs. Reading the kids' recollections of hanging out at our house and the cool/crazy things we encouraged was so awesome! What a gift to read these thoughts now!
And each of the girls wrote a poem (self-labeled highly mediocre.) I am going to type them in here just because.
Hooray! Hooray! for 31!
31 is lots of fun
But when it's over don't be blue
You're gearing up for 32!
-Erica
31
31 years of marriage
31 flavors of ice cream
Each year like a flavor
Some nuttier than others
The year I was born
Had a huge fudge chunk
Erica was lime sorbet
Adrienne, that weird blue
Banana flavored one
They call Superman
-Sarah
Anniversary
Exactly five syllables
Perfect for haiku
-Adrienne
