Damn.

Sitting here shaking over the episode of Supernatural I just watched.

I am not a scary movie enjoying person, and my absorption in this show is somewhat of an aberration. I have been unfazed by the scary camera angles, impending danger to unsuspecting innocents, nasty gore and creepy monsters because I have been hypnotized by the relationship between the two brothers, and the "got each others' back no matter what" storytelling.

But tonight the writers took the flawed but "fighting for redemption anyway" brother and broke him. They created the situation that required him to willingly and deliberately do a monstrous act. He had to do this for a good cause--but he knew he was doing evil, even if it was to an evil being.

It broke my heart. And watching one fictional man lose his humanity and be fully aware of what he was doing was excruciating.

Yes, it's a tv show. But the question exists in the real world too. How can evil be done in the name of good? And why do those who could stop it let it happen?
